Trump says Iran agreement in Pakistan expected Wednesday night
The U.S. president signals a deal is close, warns of consequences if Tehran refuses, and confirms a delegation is en route to Islamabad
President Donald Trump said he expects an agreement with Iran to be signed “tomorrow night in Pakistan,” according to remarks relayed Monday, April 20, by Fox News journalist Maria Bartiromo, who said she had just spoken with him.
“He told me he expects Iran to sign an agreement tomorrow evening in Pakistan and that all the points have now been negotiated,” Bartiromo said on air. She added that Trump warned the United States would respond forcefully if Tehran failed to sign, including potential strikes on Iranian infrastructure.
According to Bartiromo, Trump described the process as effectively complete, saying the outcome should come quickly. He indicated that earlier hesitation from the Iranian side had been resolved and that no further delays were expected.
In a separate interview with the New York Post, Trump said he would be open to meeting Iran’s leadership in person. “I have no problem meeting them if they want to meet,” he said, adding that U.S. officials believe they are negotiating with the appropriate counterparts in Tehran.
Trump reiterated that Iran must abandon any nuclear weapons ambitions, calling the demand non-negotiable. With a two-week truce deadline approaching, he declined to detail what would happen if Iran rejects the terms, saying only that the consequences “would not be good.”
The U.S. delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance along with special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, is currently traveling and is expected to arrive overnight in Islamabad, Trump said. Talks are anticipated shortly after their arrival, as the administration expresses confidence that negotiations will not collapse.
