The president announces new deportations and threatens to invoke the Insurrection Act. Governor Newsom: “Trump is behaving like a tyrant”

California takes President Donald Trump to court to stop the deployment of Marines on the streets of Los Angeles. At the centre of the standoff is the White House’s decision to send military troops and the National Guard to deal with the unrest that erupted after the deportation of illegal immigrants.

Governor Gavin Newsom has asked a federal judge to block the presidential action with immediate effect, denouncing it as an abuse of power. The judge did not grant the emergency request but set a hearing for Thursday.

Trump: ‘Situation out of control, ready for the Insurrection Act’
‘They are animals, enemies from abroad. If we hadn’t intervened, Los Angeles would be burning,’ Trump said during a visit to soldiers at Fort Bragg, without ruling out resorting to the Insurrection Act, which would allow him to use the army on national territory. ‘In some areas, there has been an insurrection. The Biden administration allowed them to enter.’

About 700 Marines are already ready to receive operational orders from Northern Command. According to CNN, they are in an advanced stage of urban control training, with rules of engagement that allow for arrest only in exceptional cases and the immediate transfer of detainees to local law enforcement.

Newsom: ‘Trump is acting like a tyrant’
The Democratic governor’s comment was harsh: ‘Donald Trump is acting like a tyrant, not a president. Sending trained fighters into our cities threatens the very heart of democracy.’ The governor denied any form of official communication with the White House: ‘There was no call. Not even a voicemail. Americans should be alarmed.’

Trump insists: ‘Deportations across the nation’
Trump is not backing down and confirms the nationwide extension of the operations already underway in Los Angeles. ‘We are sending them away and will continue to do so,’ he reiterated. ‘The National Guard needed reinforcements, so we sent a number of Marines.’ The president attacked Newsom again: ‘Incompetent. If he can’t handle the situation, he shouldn’t be governor.’

Tension ahead of the Olympics
‘Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympics, we don’t want the world to see this disaster,’ Trump added, referring to footage of the protests circulating online. ‘There are people being paid to create unrest. They threw stones at police cars.’

As the institutional clash heats up, all eyes are on Thursday’s hearing. At stake is not only the balance between federal and state powers, but also the role of the armed forces in managing internal public order in the United States.
