Change of itinerary for Usha and JD Vance’s visit to Greenland: focus on US military base

Usha Vance’s upcoming visit to Greenland undergoes significant changes. Accompanied by her husband, Vice President JD Vance, she will focus on the Pituffik military base, avoiding local cultural events and protests against US plans on the island

With only a few days to go before the planned departure for Greenland, the agenda for the visit of US Second Lady Usha Vance has undergone major changes. Her itinerary, initially planned to explore local traditions and attend cultural events, has been refocused on a visit to the US Space Force military base in Pituffik, kilometres away from any population centre. Vice President JD Vance decided to join her after the growing controversy.

The visit, described as ‘highly aggressive’ by Greenland leader Múte Egede, sparked protests in Nuuk and Sisimiut, where the traditional sled dog race event was planned. However, according to the White House, the change of schedule was not due to the protests, but to security and logistical problems related to the vice-president’s presence.
