Kate Middleton, portrait taken by son Louis for World Cancer Day

A symbolic image, taken by the little prince, shows the Princess of Wales smiling and serene after her battle with cancer

Kate Middleton is shown standing on a log, arms outstretched and looking confidently at the camera. This is the image chosen by the Princess of Wales for World Cancer Day, accompanied by a meaningful message: ‘Don’t forget to nurture all that lies beyond the disease’. What makes the shot even more special is the author: Prince Louis, the youngest of her three sons, who inherited his mother’s passion for photography.

In the photo, released by Kensington Palace, Kate appears wearing gloves, coat, hat and boots, bathed in the winter light filtering through the bare trees. A portrait that, according to body language expert Judi James, conveys a strong sense of ‘victory and freedom’, as she told the Daily Mail.

In January, the princess had announced that the cancer, diagnosed last year, was in remission after a course of preventive chemotherapy, followed by abdominal surgery. In recent months, Kate has gradually resumed her official engagements, even returning to the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she had been undergoing treatment, to thank the medical staff. She has repeatedly emphasised how crucial nature has been to her well-being during her illness, speaking of its ‘healing power’. The World Cancer Day photo seems to be a confirmation of this view.
