Peskov challenges Washington: ‘We have been living under sanctions for some time, our economy is holding up’
The Kremlin responds to the new warning from the US president: ‘We have become immune to pressure’
‘We have been living under a huge amount of sanctions for some time now, and our economy is functioning.’ This was how Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to the latest warning issued by US President Donald Trump, who gave Russia ten days to accept a ceasefire in Ukraine, threatening new sanctions and secondary tariffs if it did not.
‘Of course, we have already acquired a certain immunity,’ Peskov added, pointing out that the Russian economy has learned to withstand Western pressure, which was first imposed in 2014 and then intensified after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The Kremlin is closely monitoring developments. ‘We continue to record all statements by President Trump and other representatives of the international community on the subject,’ Peskov said, as reported by the Tass news agency.
Trump, speaking on Truth Social, reiterated that Russia will suffer harsher economic consequences if it does not accept the agreement quickly. However, the president himself admitted, ‘I don’t know if this will have an effect on Russia,’ suggesting that economic pressure may no longer be enough to sway the Kremlin’s position.
