Israeli raid on Mashhad airport, Iranian missiles on Israel
Military escalation reaches north-eastern Iran. Sirens in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Trump: ‘Peace will soon return’
The war between Israel and Iran has seen a dramatic new escalation. Today, Sunday 15 June, an Israeli army raid struck Mashhad airport in north-eastern Iran, more than 2,300 kilometres from Israel. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that they targeted a refuelling aircraft used by Tehran. It is the most distant attack since the start of the Israeli military operation.
Meanwhile, a barrage of Iranian missiles rained down on Israel, as reported by the Fars news agency and also confirmed by the Times of Israel. Alarm sirens sounded in several Israeli cities, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, while the IDF repeatedly urged the population to take shelter in bunkers.
In view of the situation, the Israeli government has decided to extend the state of emergency throughout the country until 30 June, as reported in the official statement broadcast by Channel 12.
Trump: ‘There will be peace between Iran and Israel, thanks to my intervention’
In this climate of extreme tension, US President Donald Trump has once again spoken out on the conflict, assuring that ‘peace will soon return’ between Iran and Israel, thanks, he stressed, to his personal intervention. In a post published on Truth Social, he said: ‘I do a lot and get no credit, but the people understand.’
Trump revealed that numerous contacts and meetings are underway between the parties involved. He also stated that the inclusion of Vladimir Putin as a mediator is a real possibility: ‘The Russian president called me, we had a long conversation on the subject.’ Putin had already held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Nuclear talks suspended
Due to the Israeli raids, the sixth round of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington, scheduled for today, has been cancelled. Trump, however, made it clear that there is no deadline for Iran: ‘They are talking and they have to make a deal. The negotiations continue.’
Finally, Trump issued a warning to Tehran: “If Iran attacks the United States in any way, the response will be devastating. The full force of our Armed Forces will come down on you like never before,” he wrote on Truth Social.
