The entrepreneur relaunches the idea of a new centrist political party after breaking with the US president. 80% of users vote in favor. But Republicans hope for reconciliation

“Elon Musk returns to the center of the US political debate with a new announcement destined to spark discussion: the proposal to found a political party called The America Party. The name emerged from a poll launched on the X platform, in which 80% of users expressed support for the initiative. ‘The people have spoken,’ Musk wrote. ‘We need a party that represents the 80% who are in the middle. And 80% agree. It’s destiny.’

The precedent: America Pac and funds for Trump
The name recalls America Pac, the political action committee that Musk created in 2024, financing it with $239 million to support the re-election of Donald Trump and other Republican candidates. It is precisely this link that makes the recent clash between the two even more significant.

Tension with Trump, but the GOP hopes for a rapprochement
The public dispute between Musk and Trump has stirred up trouble in the Republican Party. House Speaker Mike Johnson reiterated the president’s undisputed leadership: “You don’t question, you don’t judge, you never challenge Donald Trump. He is the most important political figure of this generation and perhaps of the modern era.”
Johnson, however, called for “redemption” and reconciliation between the two, “in the interest of the party and the country.”

Other GOP leaders share this position. Representative Dan Newhouse says he is convinced that the rift is temporary, while Senator Ted Cruz is confident: “I hope they will work together again. When they do, they bring important results for America.”

Republicans thus show a certain fear of Musk and his ability to shake things up in a country that is about to experience unprecedented political decline.
