The alleged crimes were allegedly committed between 1999 and 2005. Investigation still ongoing
Keywords: Russell Brand, rape allegations, sexual assault, British police, investigation

British actor and comedian Russell Brand has been formally charged with rape and sexual assault by four women. This was reported in the international press, citing a statement issued by the British police, according to which the alleged offences were committed between 1999 and 2005.

Brand, now living in Oxfordshire, southern England, is at the centre of an investigation that is still open. ‘Investigators are asking anyone who has been involved in this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak to the police,’ reads the official note released by the police.

Born in 1975, Brand was for years one of the most popular figures in British show business, known for his provocative and over-the-top style. Between 2010 and 2011, he was married to American pop star Katy Perry.

The first allegations date back to 2023, when an investigation conducted by the Sunday Times and Channel 4 had collected the testimonies of four women who spoke of rape and sexual abuse. On that occasion, the actor had defended himself by claiming that he had never had non-consensual relations.

The new allegations have revived the case in the media and in the courts: now the investigators have the floor, while the debate on abuse of power and inappropriate conduct in show business is back on the agenda.
