Merz accuses Russia: ‘Deliberate war crime in Sumy’
Designated German Chancellor strongly condemns Russian missile attack on Ukrainian civilians: ‘Deliberate and perfidious act’
Germany’s Federal Chancellor-designate, Friedrich Merz, has strongly condemned the Russian missile attack that hit the Ukrainian city of Sumy, calling it ‘a serious, deliberate and intentional war crime’.
‘This is a perfidious and planned act against innocent civilians,’ Merz said during an interview with the public channel ARD. The leader of the conservative party, which will officially take over as head of the German government in early May, emphasised that this incident represents a brutal response by the Kremlin to attempts at dialogue.
‘This is the answer: this is what Putin does to those who propose a ceasefire to him,’ Merz concluded, reiterating Germany’s support for Ukraine.
