The Ukrainian president comments on the latest diplomatic moves and the ongoing war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed scepticism about the phone call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump after the Kremlin proposed a partial ceasefire. Zelensky welcomed the one-month pause in attacks against energy infrastructure, but reiterated that Russia is not seeking peace, but aims to ‘weaken Ukraine’.
According to Zelensky, the conditions imposed by Putin, such as the demand to stop sending arms to Ukraine, indicate that Russia wants to continue the war, not end the conflict. ‘Putin wants to weaken Ukraine and not end the war,’ Zelensky said, adding that he hoped for direct contact with Trump to clarify the US position on agreements with Russia.
Meanwhile, the war continues on the ground, with Russia accusing Ukraine of attempting an incursion into the Belgorod region, while Kiev fears a possible enemy attack in the Sumy oblast. Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian troops will continue to fight in the Kursk region, which is strategic to the conflict, stressing that Ukrainian soldiers are committed to carrying out the ongoing operation as long as necessary.
