Trump bans transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports
Signed an executive order preventing participation in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Visa controls planned for those who want to compete in the US
Donald Trump signed an executive order today, 5 February, banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. The measure, titled ‘No to men in women’s sports’ by the administration, states that transgender women will not be allowed to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles or in other competitions in the US.
The White House explained that federal authorities will be tasked with launching fraud investigations into those applying for visas to compete in women’s categories. The Trump administration also intends to put pressure on the International Olympic Committee to enforce the ban.
The decision triggered immediate reactions. The Human Rights Campaign denounced the measure as discriminatory, arguing that it exposes young transgender athletes to risks of exclusion and persecution.
