Plane crash in Washington: 55 bodies recovered, investigation into Black Hawk altitude

Search continues in the Potomac after a collision between an airliner and a military helicopter

US authorities have recovered the remains of 55 of the 67 victims of the collision between an airliner and a Black Hawk helicopter near Washington’s Ronald Reagan Airport. Divers continue the search in the Potomac River for the other 12 missing persons.

According to preliminary data, the military helicopter was flying at an erratic altitude in the seconds before impact, hovering between 200 and 300 feet. Investigators are analysing the black boxes to determine the precise cause of the crash, also considering night visibility and other factors that may have influenced the dynamics of the crash.
