Elon Musk changes his name on X: he is now ‘Harry Bōlz’

The most-watched profile on the platform adopts a new name, amid irony and references to his companies

Elon Musk is once again playing with his identity on X. Since a few hours, those who visit his profile no longer find the name of the South African billionaire, but that of a certain ‘Harry Bōlz’. No hacker attack, but a deliberate choice by Musk himself, taking advantage of the possibility of temporarily changing the name displayed.

This is not the first time he has done this. Already in April 2023, a few months after the acquisition of Twitter (later renamed X), he had adopted the same pseudonym, later explaining that it was a joke based on a rather vulgar English pun. In late 2024, however, he had chosen ‘Kekius Maximus’, an ironic reference to meme culture.

This time, the return of ‘Harry Bōlz’ comes just hours after an exchange of jokes with Sam Altman about the management of OpenAI. Musk responded in a provocative manner, even floating the idea of selling X ‘at a discount’ to the $44 billion paid to buy it. The new profile name is accompanied by the phrase ‘A shortfall of Gravity’.
