After the controversy over the release of three Israeli hostages, the humanitarian organisation calls for confidentiality and respect in future releases
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has urged Israel and Hamas to ensure that upcoming prisoner exchanges take place in a ‘dignified and private’ manner. The appeal follows the controversy surrounding the release of three Israeli hostages whose videos and pictures, released after their release, showed them visibly debilitated from captivity in Gaza.
The humanitarian organisation, which traditionally facilitates operations to release detainees and prisoners in conflict scenarios, emphasised the need to respect the dignity of those involved, avoiding spectacularisation and media pressure that could aggravate the trauma suffered.
