US Supports Potential Israeli Strikes Amid Iran Nuclear Talks

US Supports Potential Israeli Strikes Amid Iran Nuclear Talks

Washington signals readiness to assist Israel militarily if diplomacy with Tehran stalls

US Signals Conditional Support for Israeli Military Action – The United States has indicated it could back Israeli strikes on Iran if nuclear talks fail. Sources told CBS that during a December meeting at Mar‑a‑Lago, President Donald Trump assured Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington would support Israeli operations targeting Iran’s ballistic missile program in the absence of a diplomatic agreement.

Planning and Logistical Assistance

Senior U.S. military and intelligence officials are reportedly exploring ways to assist Israeli operations, focusing on logistical support such as in‑flight refueling and potential overflight permissions. Direct combat involvement by U.S. forces has not been confirmed.

Challenges in Regional Airspace

It remains unclear which countries would allow U.S. overflights to support Israeli actions. Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have publicly stated they will not permit their airspace for attacks on Iran or Iranian strikes against other nations. Meanwhile, the U.S. has reinforced its presence in the region with the deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and accompanying warships.

Geneva Nuclear Talks Underway

The announcement coincides with the start of the second round of nuclear negotiations in Geneva. Iranian officials have expressed willingness to limit uranium enrichment in exchange for sanctions relief, though the exact terms remain undefined. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are traveling to engage in crucial discussions with Iranian representatives.

Rubio emphasized the complexity of negotiating with Iran, citing ideological and theological influences on the country’s political decisions. He noted that while the U.S. prefers diplomacy, the possibility of military support for Israel remains a contingency.

Balancing Diplomacy and Military Readiness

The situation reflects a dual U.S. approach: pursuing negotiations while maintaining the option to support Israel militarily if Iran does not compromise on its nuclear program. The outcome of the US Supports Potential Israeli Strikes Amid Iran Nuclear Talks scenario will depend on the success of Geneva negotiations and Iran’s willingness to limit uranium enrichment and adhere to sanctions relief agreements.
