Narges Mohammadi denied medical visit after alleged abuse

Narges Mohammadi’s family says Iranian authorities have refused her a medical visit after alleged police violence during her arrest

Narges Mohammadi, concerns grow over her health in detention – The case of Narges Mohammadi, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has once again drawn international attention. According to her family, Iranian authorities have denied her access to an independent medical examination following violence allegedly suffered during her arrest last week.

The allegation was made public by her brother, Hamid Reza Mohammadi, who lives in Norway and spoke to journalists in Paris. He said his sister managed to make a brief phone call on Sunday evening to another brother in Iran, during which she described what had happened.

Allegations of violence during the arrest

According to the account relayed by her family, Narges Mohammadi said she was beaten by police officers with batons to the face, head and neck. After learning of the alleged assault, her brother formally requested that the authorities allow her to be examined by an independent doctor, but the request was reportedly rejected.

This refusal, the family says, has heightened fears about her physical condition and the treatment she is receiving while in custody.

Family raises alarm over medical care

For the relatives of Narges Mohammadi, denying her a medical visit is a serious and troubling sign. They fear that possible injuries resulting from the violence may not be properly diagnosed or treated and are calling for her basic rights to be respected, starting with access to appropriate and impartial healthcare.

The case is likely to increase international pressure on Iran, which has long faced criticism over its treatment of dissidents and human rights activists.
