Shooting at Bondi Beach during Hanukkah, at least 11 dead

Armed attack in Sydney during a Jewish celebration, two people arrested

A shooting at Bondi Beach turned a Hanukkah celebration into a tragedy. At least eleven people were killed in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, where armed men opened fire on participants at the event, causing panic along one of the Australian city’s most popular and symbolic beaches.

According to reports from the local Jewish community, the attack took place while the religious celebration was underway. Witnesses speak of a chaotic escape among the crowd, with people seeking shelter along the beach and in surrounding areas after the gunshots rang out.

New South Wales police confirmed that two people were arrested in connection with the shooting at Bondi Beach, which authorities described as a “mass shooting”. In a statement posted on social media, the police said the operation was still ongoing and urged the public to avoid the area and not to cross the security cordons.

The investigation is in full swing. According to unofficial reports, the attack may be directly linked to the Hanukkah celebrations taking place at the time of the shooting. Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive or provided details on the identities of the victims or suspects.

The shooting at Bondi Beach has deeply shaken Sydney and the whole of Australia, reigniting attention on issues of public safety and the protection of religious and community events.
