Tehran outlines terms on Hormuz, sanctions, and nuclear talks, but Washington deems the offer insufficient

The Iran proposal to the US rejected by Trump includes a set of conditions ranging from reopening maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz to lifting the naval blockade of Iranian ports, along with a delayed framework for nuclear negotiations.

According to a senior Iranian official cited by Reuters and reported by Sky News and Haaretz, the plan was transmitted to Washington through Pakistani mediation but failed to meet the expectations of the US president.

At the core of the proposal is a request for guarantees that both Israel and the United States would refrain from further attacks on Iran as a condition to end the conflict. In exchange, Tehran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation.

The plan also calls for the United States to lift the naval blockade currently affecting Iranian ports. Only after these initial steps would negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program begin, linked to a broader removal of US sanctions.

Among the conditions outlined by Tehran is a request for Washington to recognize Iran’s right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes. Iran, however, signals its willingness to suspend such activity within the framework of a broader agreement.

“In this framework, negotiations on the more complex nuclear issue have been moved to the final stage to create a more favorable atmosphere,” the Iranian official said.

The United States has repeatedly maintained that it will not end the conflict without an agreement ensuring that Iran cannot develop a nuclear weapon.
