King Charles revokes Andrew’s titles, Harry and Meghan also at risk

King Charles strips his brother Andrew of his royal titles, Harry and Meghan now also in the firing line

King Charles revokes Andrew’s titles with an official decision published in the United Kingdom Gazette, stripping his brother of the titles of Prince and Duke of York. From today, Queen Elizabeth’s third child will be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. The measure, formalised through letters patent dated 3 November 2025, is an unprecedented act in the recent history of the British monarchy.

The move comes after the well-known events surrounding Andrew’s relationship with financier Jeffrey Epstein. But according to analysts, King Charles’ decision could be just the beginning of a broader review of royal titles, which in the future could also involve Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.

Harry and Meghan in the Crown’s sights

US broadcaster NewsNation reports that Harry is considering a return to his homeland, but experts are urging him to move quickly. When William becomes king, the royal titles of Harry, Meghan and their children Archie and Lilibet could be revoked.

Historian Andrew Lownie, quoted by the broadcaster, said: ‘Getting rid of Andrew was a useful exercise in demonstrating what can be done with titles, and it is a warning shot to Harry’. According to Lownie, one of William’s first moves will be to strip the Sussexes of their titles of “duke” and “duchess”, along with their children’s titles of “prince” and “princess”.

Tensions with William and the future of the monarchy

Despite their decision to step down from their royal duties, Harry and Meghan had insisted that Archie and Lilibet be recognised as prince and princess in March 2023. This was a choice that William, who has always been critical of his brother’s media exposure and the publication of his autobiography Spare, would never have accepted.

King Charles’ recent decision to revoke Andrew’s titles therefore appears to be a strong political signal, redefining the internal balance of the Royal Family and foreshadowing possible future changes for the Sussex line.
