In an interview with NBC, US President Donald Trump reiterates his desire to acquire Greenland and does not rule out any scenario, although he prefers peaceful methods. He defends advisor Waltz, who was swept up in the chatgate scandal
Donald Trump is not backing down one step on the Greenland issue. In an interview with NBC, the US president stated confidently: ‘We will get Greenland, 100 per cent’. Trump explained that there are ‘possibilities’ to acquire the Arctic territory by peaceful means, ruling out the use of military force at the moment. However, he left every option open, stating that ‘nothing is ruled out’, making it clear that the US will consider every possible avenue to achieve this goal.
During the interview, Trump defended his National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, who is at the centre of the chatgate scandal, linked to alleged classified communications. Despite mounting pressure for his removal, the president reiterated his confidence in Waltz, accusing the media of conducting a ‘witch hunt’ without any real basis. ‘I’m not firing anyone because of fake news,’ Trump said, stressing that he “has no idea” what Signal, the messaging app implicated in the affair, is. ‘I don’t care and it doesn’t concern me,’ he added, downplaying the scandal as a desperate attempt by the media to divert attention from the real issues.
Trump’s statements, both about Greenland and chatgate, are continuing to fuel controversy and reaction both in the US and abroad, with the president remaining true to his aggressive and determined style.
