Hamas denounces Israeli attack as ‘serious violation’ of ceasefire
Police officers hit near Rafah, rising tensions in Gaza
Hamas accused Israel of grossly violating the ceasefire in force since 19 January, after an Israeli airstrike killed three police officers near Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip. ‘The bombing carried out this morning by an Israeli drone east of Rafah, targeting police forces engaged in securing the entry of humanitarian aid, is a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement,’ Hamas said in a statement.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF), however, said the attack targeted ‘a group of armed men who were approaching Israeli positions in the area’.
