Musk raises bid on OpenAI: $97.4 billion offer
Entrepreneur challenges Sam Altman with a bid for control of the company
A consortium of investors led by Elon Musk has submitted a $97.4 billion bid to buy the non-profit that controls OpenAI. The move, reported by the Wall Street Journal, is part of the battle between Musk and Sam Altman over the future of the company behind ChatGPT.
Musk’s lawyer, Marc Toberoff, confirmed that he sent the proposal to OpenAI’s board of directors today. The offer could complicate the plans of Altman, who aims to turn OpenAI into a for-profit company and invest up to $500 billion in infrastructure through the Stargate joint venture, also promoted by President Donald Trump.
