Jordan and Egypt reject Trump’s plan for Palestinians
Outright rejection of the US president’s proposed forced displacement of Gaza citizens to neighbouring countries
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi expressed firm opposition to any plan to forcibly relocate Palestinians. In response to recent statements by US President Donald Trump, who has speculated on the relocation of Gaza citizens to Egypt and Jordan, Safadi said: ‘Our rejection of the displacement of Palestinians is firm and will not change. Jordan is for the Jordanians and Palestine is for the Palestinians’.
Egypt has also rejected the US proposal, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, which quotes an Egyptian government source. Cairo has reportedly already informed the US of its position, emphasising the impossibility of accepting a plan that would entail drastic demographic and political change in the region.
The Jordanian and Egyptian statements highlight a strong opposition in the Arab world to solutions involving the displacement of Palestinians from the occupied territories, an option that is perceived as a violation of international law and fundamental human rights.
