The US president is not giving up on the project and reiterates his conviction about the need to acquire the Danish territory

Donald Trump is not giving up on his idea to acquire Greenland, continuing to say he is convinced that the US will take control of the island, despite the resistance expressed by Denmark. During a recent statement to reporters aboard Air Force One, the president reiterated that Greenland’s 57,000 residents ‘want to be with us’, suggesting that the takeover is only a matter of time.

These statements come after a phone call between Trump and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, during which the Danish politician insisted that Greenland is not for sale. The proposal to buy the vast Arctic territory dates back to 2019, when Trump called it an ‘absolute necessity’ for international security. Recently, the Financial Times reported details of a ‘fiery’ meeting between Trump and Frederiksen, during which the president was particularly aggressive, reiterating his determination. The White House has not commented on the incident.

Greenland’s position, expressed by its Prime Minister Múte Egede, was clear: if the United States wants to talk about Greenland, it must do so with the island’s government. Egede emphasised the concern of the population, especially after Trump had hinted at the possibility of the use of military force to achieve his goals. However, he called for calm, saying that the most important thing now is to maintain unity and address the situation with seriousness and dialogue.
