The Italian champion triumphed in the Downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo, achieving her 26th World Cup victory

Sofia Goggia delivered yet another memorable performance, taking her 26th World Cup victory. In the downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo, on the legendary Olympia slope of the Tofane, the 32-year-old from Bergamo finished with a time of 1’33″95. Goggia was 42 hundredths ahead of Norway’s Kajsa Vickhoff Lie and 55 hundredths ahead of compatriot Federica Brignone, who finished third. In fourth place was Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami.

This victory came after two falls in the St. Anton races, a result that made the triumph even sweeter. ‘When I arrived at the finish line and saw my position on the scoreboard, my heart was in my throat,’ Goggia said. ‘It was not the perfect downhill, I made a couple of mistakes, but I stayed focused. Cortina has a special meaning for me, I am very happy.’ This is the fourth downhill victory in Cortina for Goggia, following successes in 2018, 2022 and 2023.

Federica Brignone, who also starred in the race, reached the podium in Cortina for the first time. ‘It is a great emotion in front of this audience,’ Brignone told Rai microphones. ‘I finally made it and I am really satisfied. I did a great race, too bad for that mistake that penalised me. I never thought I would wear the red bib on the downhill.’
