A shooting at Bondi Beach turned a Hanukkah celebration into a tragedy. At least eleven people were killed in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, where armed men opened fire on participants at the event, causing panic along one of the Australian city’s most popular and symbolic beaches.
According to reports from the local Jewish community, the attack took place while the religious celebration was underway. Witnesses speak of a chaotic escape among the crowd, with people seeking shelter along the beach and in surrounding areas after the gunshots rang out.
New South Wales police confirmed that two people were arrested in connection with the shooting at Bondi Beach, which authorities described as a “mass shooting”.
