Donald Trump aims for new meeting with Vladimir Putin and asks Xi Jinping’s China to mediate in Ukraine conflict

The Trump-Putin meeting returns to the centre of the world diplomatic stage. US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to schedule a new meeting with Vladimir Putin, explaining to reporters aboard Air Force One that “the Russian president wants to make a deal”. “I won’t waste any time,” Trump said. “I’ve always had a great relationship with Putin, but so far it’s been very disappointing”.

Trump-Putin meeting and the role of China

During his trip to Asia, Trump confirmed that he also wants to talk to Xi Jinping about the conflict in Ukraine. ‘I would like China to help us with Russia,’ said the tycoon, recalling the sanctions imposed on Moscow. The American president described his relationship with Xi as “excellent” and said he was confident that the next meeting would be ‘exceptional’.

New sanctions and tensions with Moscow

Speaking about the new measures imposed against Russia, Trump commented: ‘Putin says they won’t have such a significant effect, but I don’t think he’s right.’ According to American observers, the Trump-Putin meeting could reopen a direct channel between Washington and Moscow after months of diplomatic frostiness.

Russia, Ukrainian children trained for war

At the same time, an investigation by the Kyiv Independent has revealed that Russia is training Ukrainian children from the occupied territories. The programme, launched by the Warrior Centre for Military and Patriotic Education in 2022 on the direct orders of Vladimir Putin, involves teenagers from Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk and Donetsk, who are subjected to military drills and patriotic propaganda courses.
