Separate celebrations for members of the Royal Family, while Charles and Camilla pay tribute on social media

Tribute from the Prince and Princess of Wales – Prince William and Princess Kate commemorated the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing today, 8th September. The royal couple attended an event in Sunningdale, visiting the National Federation of Women’s Institutes (WI), an institution with which the late monarch had a special connection, paying tribute to her long life and public service.

Harry’s gesture – A few miles away, Prince Harry visited St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle shortly after landing at Heathrow. The Duke of Sussex left a wreath and bouquet on his grandmother’s grave in a private memorial service.

Charles and Camilla on social media – King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla also marked the anniversary of the Queen’s death by sharing an image of the late sovereign on their official channels with the simple caption: “Remembering Queen Elizabeth II, 1926-2022”.

The brothers’ upcoming engagements – Harry will attend the WellChild Awards ceremony in London, a charity event he has long supported, while William will visit a youth organisation in Lambeth, south London, tomorrow. Meanwhile, Harry will return to the Community Recording Studio in St Ann’s, Nottingham. It is unclear whether there will be a meeting with King Charles, currently in Balmoral, where he has no public engagements scheduled, during the commemorative days.

Family relations and recent meetings – The last face-to-face meeting between Harry and Charles was in February 2024, after the sovereign’s cancer diagnosis, and lasted just over 30 minutes. The brothers were also present together at the funeral of their uncle Lord Fellowes in Norfolk, also in 2024, although they do not appear to have spoken to each other. Today’s celebrations once again highlight how members of the Royal Family have chosen separate paths to commemorate the memory of Queen Elizabeth II.
