Trump announces new sanctions: ‘Patience with Putin has run out’
The US president accuses Moscow and Kiev of stalling peace talks and threatens tough measures on banks and oil
The stalemate in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine is causing Donald Trump to lose patience, promising a new crackdown on Moscow. ‘Patience is running out fast, but it takes two to tango… When Putin wants to do it, Zelensky doesn’t. When Zelensky wants to do it, Putin doesn’t. We’re going to have to be very, very strong,’ the US president said in an interview with Fox and Friends.
Sanctions and tariffs on the way
Trump announced ‘very tough sanctions against banks and the oil sector’ and new tariffs, recalling that he had already imposed secondary measures against India for purchasing Russian crude oil.
Talks at a standstill
From Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that contacts between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators are ‘on hold,’ while specifying that communication channels remain open.
