Massacre in a Brooklyn restaurant leaves three dead and eight wounded
Shooting in Crown Heights overnight. Police describe it as an “anomaly” in a context of declining violent crime. Trump threatens federal intervention
The shooting. Three men were killed and eight people wounded overnight in Brooklyn when an armed group stormed the Caribbean restaurant Taste of the City Lounge in the Crown Heights neighborhood, not far from the Brooklyn Museum. The attack took place around 3:30 a.m., at closing time. The victims were 27 and 35 years old.
The police version. At a press conference, Jessica Tisch, head of the New York Police Department, called the incident “an anomaly”: “We have recorded the lowest number of shootings in the last seven months, a record for the city. What happened today is terrible, but fortunately rare,” she said, quoted by the New York Post.
Trump’s policy. The incident reopens the political debate on security. After deploying the National Guard in Washington and attempting to impose federal control over the capital’s police force, Donald Trump has hinted that he may take similar measures for New York and other cities administered by Democrats, accusing them of failing to maintain public order.
