Houthi: ‘The US asked us for peace, but we will continue to attack Israel’
After Oman’s announcement on the end of the conflict between the US and Ansar Allah, the Yemeni group reiterates support for Gaza and willingness to impose naval blockade in the Red Sea
The Houthis claim an end to hostilities with the United States but announce new attacks against Israel. In an interview with the Italian news agency Adnkronos, Nasr al-Din Amer, deputy head of the media authority of the Ansar Allah (commonly called Houthi) and chairman of the board of directors of the Saba news agency, stated that it was Washington that called for an end to military operations, and not the other way around.
The statement comes in the aftermath of Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi’s announcement that Omani diplomatic efforts would lead to the end of the conflict between the US and Ansar Allah. Indeed, the post published on X by the Omani diplomatic chief speaks of a guarantee of freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and a mutual end to hostilities.
But the version provided by the Houthis is quite different. ‘The Omani mediator’s statement was clear and does not include any of the falsehoods and bravado contained in Trump’s speech,’ says al-Din Amer. ‘America attacked our country in the service of Israel and in support of the continuation of genocidal crimes in Gaza. We defended ourselves and continued to support Gaza.’
The Houthi spokesman reiterated that despite the cessation of American aggression, the group will continue its operations against Israel. ‘We will continue to strike deep into the Israeli entity and impose an air and sea blockade,’ he said, effectively debunking Washington’s appeasement version.
The contrast between the statements of the US government, the Omani mediator, and the Houthi leaders makes the ongoing geopolitical reality between Yemen, the US, and Israel even more complex to decipher. The informational and diplomatic warfare is intertwined with a military strategy that, at least for now, does not seem destined for a true cease-fire.
