Trump administration-linked tycoon fuels tensions with Kiev and Poland
Elon Musk, a key businessman in the Trump administration, has turned the spotlight on the already delicate relations between Ukraine and the US. After the White House stopped sending weapons and sharing intelligence information with Kiev, Musk speculated on the deactivation of Starlink, the satellite system essential for Ukrainian military and civilian communications.
The system, created by the SpaceX company, has become indispensable since the beginning of the conflict. Musk, in an interaction on social media, stated that shutting down Starlink would ‘bring down the entire front line’, creating an international case. Poland, which funds part of the service for Ukraine, responded with concern through its foreign minister, Radoslaw Sikorski. Musk’s response was harsh: ‘Shut up, little man. You only pay a tiny fraction of the cost.’
The affair also involved the US administration, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio defending Starlink’s role and recalling how crucial the system was in preventing a Russian victory. In the end, Musk tried to calm tensions, assuring that ‘Starlink will never be shut down’, despite his disagreement with Ukrainian policy.
