The American pop star celebrates the milestone of 49 total awards at the Billboard Music Awards, an all-time record. A triumph that comes on the eve of her 35th birthday

Taylor Swift set a new record at the Billboard Music Awards, winning 10 new awards, including Best Artist and Best Album on the Billboard 200 for The Tortured Poets Department. With these awards, her total haul rises to 49 awards, making her the most awarded artist in Billboard history. On the eve of her 35th birthday, Swift thanked fans in a pre-recorded speech, calling these awards ‘the best birthday present’.

Her triumph follows the global success of the Eras Tour, a tour that dominated the music and cultural scene for 21 months. Swift expressed gratitude for the reception her music has received: ‘It means a lot to me that you’ve taken such an interest in the things I’ve done’.

Other artists also shone on the night: Dua Lipa won the award for best electronic dance song with Houdini, Coldplay was awarded best touring rock artist, and Chappell Roan received the title of best new artist. Drake dominated the rap scene with three awards, while Doja Cat and Kendrick Lamar took the top female and male rap awards. Sza triumphed in the R&B category, while Shaboozey took home three awards for his hit A Bar Song (Tipsy).
