Killed by Israel Hamas commander responsible for kibbutz Nahal Oz attack

Majdi Aqilan eliminated in Israeli air raid on Gaza

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet announced the killing of Hamas commander Majdi Aqilan in an air raid on Gaza. Aqilan, known for leading the assault on kibbutz Nahal Oz on 7 October 2023, was the number two of the Shati battalion in Gaza City. During the attack, civilians were massacred and taken hostage.

Mamdouh Mehna, a tunnel expert in the Gaza City brigade, who had participated in the assault on kibbutz Nahal Oz, was also killed in the raid. Mehna was responsible for the construction of Hamas tunnels and the training of underground operatives.

According to the Gaza City Ministry of Health, the number of Palestinians killed since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip has risen to 44,612, with 105,834 injured since 7 October 2023.

In the early hours of today, Israeli fighter jets conducted air raids at border crossings between Lebanon and Syria, hitting infrastructure used to transfer weapons to Hezbollah. The Israeli army stated that these attacks are part of efforts to disrupt the transfer of weapons from Syrian to Lebanese territory and to prevent the restoration of Hezbollah’s capabilities.

The affected crossings are crucial access points to the Syrian province of Homs, where jihadists and anti-government factions are advancing against the forces of Bashar al-Assad.
