Mojtaba Khamenei transferred to Russia for medical treatment? Moscow remains silent

According to international media, the new Iranian leader may have been injured in U.S. and Israeli raids. Neither Tehran nor Moscow has confirmed the reports

International media have reported that the new Iranian Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, may have been secretly transferred to Moscow for medical treatment after being injured in U.S. and Israeli raids targeting the Iranian leadership during the early stages of the conflict. The attacks resulted in the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to the newspaper Al-Jarida, citing sources, the 56-year-old leader was reportedly evacuated from Iran on March 12 aboard a military aircraft and underwent surgery, possibly for severe leg injuries.

Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed these reports. The Kremlin also declined to comment on Mojtaba Khamenei’s presence in Russia. “We do not comment on such reports,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Some reports suggest the transfer may have also been carried out for security reasons.

These reports come amid heightened political uncertainty in Tehran following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28, which led to Mojtaba Khamenei’s rise as the head of the Islamic Republic. According to the official version released by Tehran, Khamenei sustained only minor injuries during the initial attacks and is “in good health and fully in control of the situation.”
