Tehran denounces U.S. accusations on nuclear program and missiles as “big lies”

Iran has sharply dismissed allegations made by President Donald Trump, as Iran rejects Trump claims in State of the Union Address and accuses the White House of spreading what it described as “big lies” about Tehran’s nuclear and missile activities.

In a post published on X, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei criticized the president’s remarks, particularly those concerning Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missile development, and the number of casualties reported during unrest in January. According to Baqaei, the statements delivered during the annual address to Congress were a repetition of unfounded accusations.

“Whatever they claim regarding the Iranian nuclear program, Iranian ballistic missiles, and the number of victims during the January unrest is simply a repetition of ‘big lies,’” Baqaei wrote. He added that “professional liars are skilled at creating the illusion of truth,” and accused the U.S. administration of orchestrating a “disinformation campaign” against Iran.

The comments came after President Trump used his State of the Union Address to reiterate his administration’s hardline stance on Tehran. “I will never allow the world’s number one state sponsor of terrorism to have a nuclear weapon. I cannot let that happen,” Trump said. He pledged that the United States would confront threats to American security wherever necessary.

Referring to what he called Operation Midnight Hammer, Trump said that last year the United States had “destroyed the Iranian nuclear program.” He warned Iranian authorities not to attempt rebuilding it and claimed that Tehran and its proxies had spread “terrorism, death, and hatred,” accusing them of killing thousands of American soldiers and millions of people overall.

Trump also asserted that Iran had already developed missiles capable of threatening Europe and U.S. overseas bases, and was working on systems that could soon reach the United States. While emphasizing that he preferred a diplomatic solution, he said negotiations were underway but noted that Washington had not yet heard Tehran explicitly renounce the pursuit of nuclear weapons.

As Iran rejects Trump claims in State of the Union Address, the exchange underscores the deep tensions between Washington and Tehran over nuclear capabilities, regional security, and missile development. Iran rejects Trump claims in State of the Union Address as politically motivated accusations, while the U.S. president maintains that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remains a central objective of his administration.
