The U.S. president denies the French leader’s claims: “He’s seeking attention and spreading falsehoods.” Talks with Tehran over the nuclear issue underway

Donald Trump has lashed out at French President Emmanuel Macron over remarks made following the American leader’s early departure from the G7 summit in Canada. “The publicity-seeking President of France incorrectly stated that I left the G7 to return to Washington to work on a ‘ceasefire’ between Israel and Iran. Wrong!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“He has no idea why I’m returning to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a ceasefire,” Trump added. “It’s much bigger than that. Emmanuel is always wrong—whether intentionally or not. Stay tuned.”

Macron had described Trump’s early exit from the summit as “positive,” suggesting it was driven by efforts to ease tensions between Tel Aviv and Tehran. The White House has firmly rejected this interpretation.

According to CBS News, Trump “does not expect Israel to slow down its fight against Iran” and is not pursuing a ceasefire. Instead, both the U.S. and Israel are seeking a “real end” to the crisis—meaning Iran must fully abandon its nuclear ambitions. “You’ll find out what’s coming in the next two days. No one has slowed down the attacks so far,” Trump told the network.

Axios reports that Trump left the G7 in Kananaskis after ordering his national security staff to convene in the White House Situation Room. The goal: to evaluate a possible diplomatic meeting with Iranian officials. The administration is reportedly considering a direct meeting this week between White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss a possible framework to end both the war with Israel and the nuclear standoff.

Meanwhile, China has condemned Trump’s call for Iranian citizens to “evacuate immediately,” accusing him of “pouring fuel on the fire.” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun warned during a press conference that “threats and pressure will not help de-escalate the situation—on the contrary, it may further intensify and expand the conflict.”
