Mystery surrounds the disappearance of Sarah Ferguson
After Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest in the Epstein case, questions mount over the former Duchess of York’s whereabouts and financial ties
Mystery surrounds the disappearance of Sarah Ferguson, the former wife of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as scrutiny intensifies following his arrest in connection with the Epstein scandal.
Ferguson, who had continued living with Andrew at Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate before he was forced to leave the property, has not been seen publicly for five months. Her last confirmed sighting dates back to September 25 of last year, when she was photographed leaving what had been their shared residence.
The renewed attention comes after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested Thursday at his temporary home at Wood Farm in Sandringham, on his 66th birthday. Though no longer a working royal, he remains in the line of succession. He was held for 12 hours at a police station before being released. Since then, speculation about Ferguson’s whereabouts has intensified, particularly after the couple’s eviction earlier this month.
The Mirror described the ongoing investigation as potentially having “catastrophic consequences” for Ferguson and her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who are reportedly shaken by their father’s arrest.
Reports of relocation abroad
In recent months, rumors suggested that Ferguson had relocated to Portugal, where Princess Eugenie spends part of the year with her family. Now, amid concerns that legal trouble in the United Kingdom could also affect her, attention has shifted to the United Arab Emirates or another Gulf country. Ferguson, who has long faced financial pressures, is said to have considered moving abroad in search of employment, reportedly ruling out the possibility of publishing a rapid-response memoir.
Andrew Lownie, author of The Rise and Fall of the House of York, has said he believes Ferguson is overseas, describing it as a pattern during difficult periods in her life, potentially relying on wealthy acquaintances.
It has been confirmed that she is not on Necker Island in the Caribbean, owned by Richard Branson, according to an official statement from the Virgin Group. However, six companies for which Ferguson served as sole director have recently been struck off the U.K. public register. According to People, applications were filed with Companies House to dissolve S. Phoenix Events Limited, Fergie’s Farm, La Luna Investments, Solamoon Limited, Philanthrepreneur Limited, and Planet Partners Productions Limited.
Renewed scrutiny over Epstein ties
Mystery surrounds the disappearance of Sarah Ferguson as past correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein resurfaces. In September 2010, after Epstein’s release from a prior conviction for sex trafficking of minors, Ferguson asked him to help secure housing and an internship in New York for her 22-year-old goddaughter, Laura McGowan. In emails, she suggested the possibility of accommodation in one of Epstein’s apartments.
Following Epstein’s inquiries about the young woman, Ferguson responded with praise and expressed anticipation about seeing him in London. Financial records from that period indicate that Epstein paid $14,080.10 for flights for the family.
Shortly after Epstein’s release, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie reportedly lunched with him in Miami. Emails from Epstein referred to the princesses as “the girls” and suggested they were invited to attend events to add a British royal presence. In one exchange, Ferguson apologized for being unable to send her daughters to meet Epstein due to prior commitments. In another widely cited email, she described Eugenie as “back from a weekend of sex.”
Princess Eugenie, co-founder of the nonprofit Anti Slavery Collective, which works with victims of sexual exploitation, has seen donations to the organization drop from £1.5 million in 2024 to £48,000 in 2025 after it adopted a lower public profile. She divides her time between Portugal and Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace, where she reportedly pays rent. Princess Beatrice, who has business interests in the Gulf and recently appeared in a commercial for a bank in the Emirates, serves as a director at the London art gallery Hauser & Wirth and splits her time between the Cotswolds and an apartment at St James’s Palace.
In emails from January 2010, Ferguson wrote to Epstein praising his generosity and signing off with “I am at your service. Marry me.” In earlier correspondence, she thanked him for his kindness in front of her daughters and described him as “the brother I have always sought.” In May 2010, she reportedly asked him to help her find employment, stating that she was in desperate need of money.
As investigations continue into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, mystery surrounds the disappearance of Sarah Ferguson, with unanswered questions about her current location, her financial situation, and the broader implications for the York family.
