Interim President Delcy Rodríguez frames diplomatic negotiations as a political response to the capture of Nicolás Maduro

Venezuela has confirmed the opening of exploratory diplomatic talks with the United States aimed at restoring bilateral relations and reopening the respective embassies, while reiterating the intention to condemn US military action that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores.

Speaking in a televised address broadcast on national television, interim President Delcy Rodríguez said the negotiations are intended to reaffirm Venezuela’s political position following what she described as an aggression that deeply affected the country’s population. She questioned the purpose of reopening diplomatic channels and answered that the objective is precisely to condemn US military action and defend national sovereignty through institutional dialogue.

According to Venezuelan authorities, the talks are part of an exploratory diplomatic process designed to evaluate a gradual resumption of embassy operations in both Caracas and Washington. A US delegation composed of diplomatic and security personnel has travelled to Caracas to conduct an initial assessment of logistical and operational conditions.

Foreign Minister Yván Gil confirmed that Venezuela has agreed to engage in a preliminary diplomatic framework with the aim of re-establishing official missions while maintaining a firm political stance. Rodríguez stressed that any response to the events will take place exclusively through diplomatic channels and peaceful engagement, rather than escalation.

The Venezuelan leadership continues to underline that the reopening of diplomatic relations does not imply a change in its position regarding the recent events. Officials reiterated that the government will continue to condemn US military action, defending national independence, institutional stability and territorial sovereignty while pursuing dialogue as a tool for de-escalation.
