This is only the first in a long series of attacks expected against the CEO of Tesla and Space X. Steve Bannon leads the offensive against the Tesla boss: ‘He’s an illegal immigrant, Trump should revoke his contracts.’ Musk responds with insults

There is open conflict between Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former strategist, and Elon Musk, the boss of Tesla and SpaceX. It is a political and personal battle that risks turning into an earthquake for the South African entrepreneur, now an American citizen, but increasingly the target of Trump supporters.

The debate was ignited by Bannon himself, now one of President Trump’s most influential advisers, who said in an interview: ‘Musk should be expelled from the country immediately’. According to Bannon, the tycoon is not in compliance with immigration status and should be formally investigated: ‘I am convinced that he is an illegal immigrant. We will see how long he can withstand the pressure’.

The attack does not stop there. Bannon has called for all public contracts awarded to Musk to be revoked: we are talking about more than $3 billion obtained in 2023 from 17 federal agencies in nearly 100 different contracts. He also suggested that the Trump administration investigate Musk’s alleged drug use and the entrepreneur’s attempt to access confidential briefings on China through the Pentagon.

Musk’s response was not long in coming. With his usual provocative style, he dismissed Bannon with a vitriolic comment: ‘He’s a pure retard.’

This is a duel that goes beyond insults. At stake are the relationships between political and technological power, public funds and the position of one of the most influential men in the world. And if the Trump administration were to bow to Bannon’s pressure, Elon Musk could face a much hotter season than his space ventures.
