Following the Wall Street Journal’s rumour of a plan to find a new CEO, comes a sharp denial from Musk and chairman Robyn Denholm: ‘False news, full confidence in the founder’
Tesla has not started any process to replace Elon Musk at the helm of the company. The news, published by the Wall Street Journal, was branded as ‘absolutely false’ by both the person concerned and the chairman of the board, Robyn Denholm.
According to the American newspaper, the carmaker’s board has contacted several recruiting firms to look for a new CEO, prompted by a drop in sales and growing discontent among investors, who are worried about Musk’s involvement in other commitments, such as the Doge – the Department of Government Efficiency – and his role as White House advisor.
The official retort and the attack on the WSJ
The denial came unequivocally. ‘This is absolutely false (and this was communicated to the newspaper prior to publication of the news),’ wrote Robyn Denholm, Tesla’s president, on X. ‘Tesla’s CEO is Elon Musk, and the board has full confidence in his ability to lead the ambitious growth plan ahead.’
Musk also intervened directly, accusing the Wall Street Journal of an ‘extreme breach of journalistic ethics’ for publishing ‘a deliberately false article’ that lacked the official denial provided in advance.
