North Sea fire still out of control after collision, one crew member missing
A collision between a Portuguese cargo ship and a US tanker has sparked a fire that has still not been contained, with one crew member still missing
A serious fire is still raging in the North Sea off the British coast after a collision yesterday between a Portuguese cargo ship and a US tanker. The incident took place about 16 km from the city of Hull, Yorkshire, on the UK’s east coast, and resulted in a paraffin leak from the tanker Stena Immaculate, which was at anchor at the time of the collision.
The UK port authorities confirmed that the extensive fire is still ongoing and has not yet been contained. One crew member of the cargo ship Solong is still missing. Rescue operations continue while weather conditions and the fire make the work of rescuers difficult.
The causes of the incident are still being investigated, but details on the fire conditions and the personnel involved are still being updated.
