JD Vance in Greenland, Trump: ‘We need it, it is crucial for world peace’
US Vice President JD Vance landed in Greenland to discuss Arctic security, taking up Donald Trump’s call on the strategic importance of the region
Today, US Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha landed at the Pituffik Space Base in Greenland, where they were greeted by freezing temperatures and a formal military welcome. The visit, aimed at discussing security issues related to the Arctic region, attracted interest in the Oval Office, where President Donald Trump emphasised the strategic importance of Greenland for world peace and international security.
Trump stated that the presence of Chinese and Russian ships in the region makes it impossible for Denmark, which manages Greenland, to handle the situation alone. He stated that the US must protect the region to ensure global stability. During his speech, Vance reiterated the need for greater US interest in the Arctic, while ruling out immediate military expansion.
The visit also provoked political reactions in Greenland, where new Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen criticised the timing of the US mission at a time when the country is forming its new government.
