Us: Noem revokes temporary protection for 350,000 Venezuelans
National Security Secretary’s decision exposes refugees to risk of repatriation to Venezuela
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem decided to end temporary protection for some 350,000 Venezuelans who had sought asylum in the United States in recent years. This move exposes them to the risk of being forced to return to Venezuela, where they live under an autocratic regime. According to Noem, the conditions in Venezuela ‘no longer meet’ the requirements to maintain temporary protection status. This measure will come into effect in April for those who obtained the status in 2023, as announced in a notice issued by the Department of National Security.
