Trump posts suspect image after Washington shooting arrest
President says attacker acted alone; FBI urges public to share information as investigation expands.
Donald Trump shared on Truth Social an image of the man taken into custody after the shooting near the Washington event, as investigators continued to piece together the circumstances of the attack.
According to The Washington Post, authorities recovered an identification document from the suspect. Trump, who had been escorted to safety by agents during the emergency, later addressed reporters at the White House.
“I believe he lives in California, and he is a sick person, a very sick person, and we don’t want things like this to happen,” Trump said, adding that, based on investigators’ initial findings, the man is believed to have acted alone.
Following the arrest, FBI Director Kash Patel called on the public to come forward with any information related to the incident. The FBI is examining ballistic evidence and a firearm recovered at the scene, while also interviewing witnesses, Patel said.
“No piece of information is too small, no detail is insignificant,” Patel stated. “We will evaluate everything.” He added that investigators will also conduct a thorough review of the suspect’s background and urged anyone with potentially useful information to contact law enforcement, including the FBI and the Metropolitan Police Department.
