South Carolina in shock after armed attack in a restaurant on the island of St Helena

At least four people died and another 20 were injured in a shooting in St Helena, which took place shortly after midnight on Sunday in a restaurant on the island in South Carolina. Hundreds of customers were in the restaurant at the time of the attack.

Four injured people were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing and did not provide details on the motive or the precise circumstances of the shooting.

Local authorities are reviewing footage and gathering witness statements to identify the attacker and understand the dynamics of the incident. The community is in shock over the incident, which adds to the long list of incidents of gun violence in the United States.
