Netanyahu: “We don’t want to occupy Gaza, but to liberate it from Hamas”

The Israeli prime minister rejects accusations of starvation in Gaza and confirms the upcoming military operation to demilitarize the Strip

Benjamin Netanyahu clarifies in a press conference that Israel’s goal is not to occupy the Gaza Strip, but to liberate it from “Hamas terrorists.” The prime minister accuses the media of spreading “false images of starving children” and claims that the real starving people are the hostages in the hands of Hamas. “There are still thousands of armed terrorists preparing to repeat the ferocity of the attack of October 7, 2023,” he added.

Short-term military operation

According to Netanyahu, Israel already controls 70-75% of Gaza’s territory, but two Hamas strongholds remain to be conquered. The new military operation, which will be “rather short-lived,” aims to end the war with the definitive defeat of the group.

The future of Gaza after Hamas

The prime minister outlined Israel’s post-conflict plan: Gaza will be demilitarized, with Israel having primary responsibility for security. A security zone will be established along the border to prevent future incursions, and a civil administration will be set up to promote peaceful coexistence.
