Sweden and the Netherlands call for EU sanctions against Israel and Hamas
The two countries urge Brussels to target Israeli ministers and violent settlers. Death toll rises in Gaza
Sweden and the Netherlands raise their voices and call on the European Union to introduce targeted sanctions against Israeli government officials and settlers responsible for violence, as well as more incisive measures against Hamas. The request is contained in a letter sent to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, signed by Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard and Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans.
According to the two countries, action must be taken against Israeli ministers who promote the expansion of illegal settlements and hinder a negotiated two-state solution.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Ministry of Health reports that Israeli raids have caused 71 deaths, including 22 aid seekers, and 339 injuries in the last 24 hours. Since 7 October 2023, the overall toll is 62,966 dead and 159,266 wounded.
On the international front, the IDF shot down two drones from Yemen, while in Italy, a national awareness day #digiunogaza was held, promoted by healthcare workers from the Sanitari per Gaza network and supported by Fnomceo.
Finally, from Villa Madama, the foreign ministers of Italy and Saudi Arabia, Antonio Tajani and Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, reiterated their opposition to any form of displacement of Palestinians, called for an immediate ceasefire and demanded full access to humanitarian aid.
