No injuries reported on the campus of the University of Philadelphia, where Pope Leo studied
The alarm raised last night for an alleged shooting at Villanova University, near Philadelphia, proved to be unfounded. This was confirmed today by the university’s rector, Father Peter Donahue, in a statement reported by CBS, emphasising that there were no deaths or injuries.
Initially, several US media outlets, including CNN, reported that there was an active shooter on campus, prompting authorities to urge students and residents in the area to remain indoors in a safe place. The police responded quickly, but checks ruled out any threat.
The news had attracted particular attention in Italy, given that Villanova University is the university where Pope Leo XIV studied. Today, confirmation arrived: no shooting, just a false alarm that triggered the security measures provided for in such cases.
