Total breakdown between Trump and Musk: the government backtracks on layoffs

After clashing with the president, Elon Musk exits the scene and the administration reinstates officials removed from his department. The American people pay the price

It’s a definitive break between Donald Trump and Elon Musk. After weeks of tension, the collaboration between the president and the entrepreneur has officially ended. Musk’s departure from the administration was followed by a strategic reversal: the government began to cancel numerous layoffs promoted by Doge, the department for public efficiency headed by Musk himself.

Officials from the Food and Drug Administration, the Treasury and the State Department, who were dismissed in recent months, are now being recalled. The cutback plan, presented as a radical reform, ended up threatening the functioning of the public sector, creating gaps that the government is now struggling to fill.

The administration is trying to rehire not only those who were laid off but also those who had accepted incentives to resign. However, many of them, who are close to retirement or have already moved into the private sector, are not willing to return. Meanwhile, those who have remained in service find themselves covering additional duties, with reduced staff and increasing workloads.

This situation once again reflects Trump’s typical pattern: mistakes are always someone else’s fault, but it is the American people who will pay the price, as always, in terms of inefficiency, inconvenience and administrative chaos.
